Most expats moving to Cyprus end up choosing between Paphos and Limassol. They are genuinely different places and the right choice depends on why you are moving.
Choose Paphos If...
You are retiring or semi-retiring, or your income comes from outside Cyprus and you do not need to be near a Cyprus office. Paphos has the largest UK expat community in Cyprus, an international airport with direct UK connections year-round, and housing that is noticeably more affordable than Limassol. The pace is relaxed, English is spoken everywhere, and beaches are within ten minutes. The old town and harbour are genuinely beautiful. I am based here and know it well.
Choose Limassol If...
You are running or working for a business with a Cyprus presence. Limassol is where the offices are: international law firms, accountants, fintech and shipping companies. If you need to meet clients, attend corporate events, or work in a co-working environment, Limassol's density is an advantage. The city is more cosmopolitan and urban. The marina area has luxury apartments, restaurants, and bars. Rents and property prices are materially higher than Paphos.
The Commute
Paphos and Limassol are connected by motorway. The drive is around 45 to 55 minutes. Some expats live in Paphos and drive to Limassol for meetings a few times a week. As a daily commute it becomes impractical.
The permit process is the same regardless of which city you choose. Applications go through the Civil Registry and Migration Department in your district. Both Paphos and Limassol have CRMD offices. Your location choice is about lifestyle, not residency eligibility.
