Moving to Cyprus from the UK: The Complete 2026 Guide

By Kleanthis Sokratous June 2026 15 min read

More UK nationals are moving to Cyprus than at any point since Brexit. A familiar legal system, English as a working language, low taxes, and direct flights from every major UK airport make Cyprus the most practical EU relocation for British citizens.

Your Status as a UK National

Since January 2021, UK nationals are treated as third-country nationals. You can enter Cyprus visa-free and stay up to 90 days as a visitor. To live here you need a residence permit. If you arrived before 31 December 2020, different rules apply under the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement and you should confirm your position with the Civil Registry directly.

The Main Residency Routes

The right route depends on your situation. Financially independent individuals and retirees typically use a temporary residence permit based on income from abroad. Remote workers can apply through the Digital Nomad Visa. Those purchasing qualifying property can access permanent residency directly through the fast-track investment route. Each route has different income requirements and long-term implications.

Tax Is the Bigger Decision

Cyprus non-dom status gives 0% tax on worldwide dividends and interest income, 0% capital gains on shares, and a 15% corporate tax rate. These benefits are available once you qualify as a Cyprus tax resident. But they only work if the UK exit is handled correctly at the same time. Getting Cyprus right while leaving the UK incorrectly creates dual-tax exposure that is difficult and expensive to resolve.
